The crucial link in the chain for getting the best performance from the Patriot Viper PC3-16000 2GB Memory Kit is whether or not your motherboard and processor can handle Front Side Bus increases. If your Nvidia or Intel chipset based motherboard can't give you something upwards of at least 1600 MHz FSB, then you won't really be tapping in to the bulk of the memory's potential. Nvidia 790i users can at least expect great things from the BIOS memory and CPU Bus Link option. A quick change to a memory setting or two and you're running at 2000 MHz. But, again, you'll get much better results if you at least tap in to your processor's 1600 MHz FSB potential.

Patriot tries to make the choice very clear with one of the fastest memory kits currently on the market. Specially designed for the high end 790i chipset, the Viper PC3-16000 kit sizzles at a stock speed of DDR3-2000. You read that right, 2000MHz! It also weighs in at 2GB (2x1GB) with timings of 9-9-9-24. Sporting an nVidia inspired bright green paint job, there is no mistaking these sticks among the sea of RAM choices available. If you are looking for a memory kit that can help push your system to its limit, you'll definitely want to keep reading as HardwareLogic throws these Vipers on the test bench to see what life at 2000MHz is really like.

If you're spending your hard earned cash on the new DDR3 standard, then you expect nothing short of stable, dependable performance whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit system. The memory must be reliable if you just play games or if your system is a serious number crunching SETI beast. The Patriot Viper 4GB PC3-12800 Dual Channel Memory Kit thoroughly tested here offered nothing short of those expectations. The memory is fully backward compatible with your 1066 MHz and 1333 MHz Core 2 series Intel processors. The extra performance gained from the memory's timings at lower 6-6-6-18 setting should be a pleasant bonus which also equates to plenty of bandwidth.

Patriot has been one of the newer companies to come on board at TweakTown to supply us with their high performance memory for testing, and so far we have been pretty impressed with their line of high performance memory. Once again they have come on board to send us their new series of DDR3 modules. Today we have Patriot's Viper Fin DDR3 2GB dual channel memory kit. The sticker on one side of each memory module contains info on the modules. The kit we received was rated for speeds of 1866MHz or 933MHz core speed with timings of 8-8-8-24 at a maximum voltage of 1.9v. The modules are all RoHS which means they are manufactured with lead free solder.

Configuring the Patriot Viper Series 2GB PC3-12800 DDR3 memory kit was extremely easy, which made getting up and running at over 1600MHz and 7-7-7-18 timings even more enjoyable. It usually takes some tweaking to get the test system stable at such elevated frequencies, but this kit was pretty much plug and play.

So, what can you do to improve the current DDR2 4-4-4-12 memory kits? How about, improve the kits with better ICs and improve the memory timings by lowering them to 3-4-3-8. Of course, this has only been achieved at the factory with 800MHz DDR2 ICs. Patriot has been the first to bring you 4-4-4-12 2x2GB memory kits, now they are the first to give us some 3-4-3-8 kits. This is good news for straight shooter computer users. Check out the new Patriot 2GB PC2-6400XLK Viper Memory Kit.

The sticker on one side of each module contains the full specs of the memory modules; these are rated for PC2-9200 or 1150MHz with timings of 5-5-5-12 and a maximum voltage rating of 2.3v. Our test system is identical to the one used in the PC2-6400 test setup, this time however we are using the PC2-9200 memory and the Geil. For our stock setup we used 800MHz memory dividers.
